The air at Wayland Baptist University is buzzing with excitement as our seniors prepare for graduation. But before the celebration begins and these students move on to do great things, here is some important information for the upcoming graduation week.
Firstly, seniors—before graduation day, be sure to check in with your professors about your grades and eligibility. Make sure everything is turned in and that your final grades are submitted by May 12 before you walk the stage.
Seniors and families, graduation will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Hutcherson Center gymnasium. Seniors, please arrive at Harral Auditorium no later than 1:15 p.m. on Saturday to line up for the ceremony. If any changes occur, they will be sent to your Wayland email. Family and guests, please park in and around the Hutch gymnasium to be close to the ceremony.
Attire:
Gentlemen, wear professional clothing—you’re graduating, so look sharp! This includes dark pants, a dress shirt, and a tie. Please do not wear tennis shoes, flip-flops, or crocs.
Ladies, also wear professional attire, such as a dress or dress pants and shoes. Like the men, please avoid tennis shoes, flip-flops, or crocs.
A friendly reminder for seniors: Eat something before the ceremony! It’s a big day, and you might be nervous, but you’ll be at the ceremony for a while. Be sure to have a small meal and drink some water beforehand—it’ll help you feel better during the event.
Don’t forget to grab your cap and gown in your GRAD 0001 class! If you forget, the University Store will be open and can assist you.
Tassel placement:
Baccalaureate students: Tassel on the right
Master’s and Doctoral students: Tassel on the left
Also, remember that you will not receive your official diploma on graduation day. Make sure you’ve provided a valid mailing address to the appropriate office so it can be sent to you afterward.
A reception will be held after the ceremony in the Laney Center. Guests are more than welcome to attend. This is a great opportunity to take photos, congratulate the graduates, and say farewell before our seniors leave Wayland.
We hope this guide helps you feel prepared for this exciting day. Happy Graduation—and remember, you are now and forever a Wayland Pioneer!
