Wayland recently honored its generous donors at the annual Power of Excellence event, celebrating their impact on campus life and student success. Thanks to these donors, students now enjoy many new amenities, such as the updated chapel seating and new furniture in Pete’s Place. But where does all this support come from? Who makes these improvements possible for Wayland and its students?
The Power of Excellence dinner, held on April 24, recognized many of the men and women who have donated toward the future of Wayland. The dinner showcased the tangible impact their generosity has had across campus and in students’ lives. One message was made clear throughout the evening: Wayland’s donors care deeply for its students and genuinely want each of them to succeed. Many students shared how donor contributions helped provide housing and cover tuition costs, emphasizing the real difference these gifts make.
The evening began with students expressing their appreciation directly to the donors. Following this, several new members were inducted into the Founders Society—a group dedicated to supporting Wayland through financial gifts that benefit the entire student body. The final highlights of the evening were the presentation of the Keeper of the Flame and President’s Awards.
Several individuals and organizations received the distinguished Keeper of the Flame award, which honors those who have donated $100,000 or more to Wayland. This year’s recipients included Covenant Health, Cary and Sally Eaves, the Hutcherson Flying Queens Foundation, and Charlotte Young. These honorees join a long and impactful tradition of donors who help keep the Wayland legacy strong.
While there are far too many donors to name individually, their collective impact is visible throughout the campus. Next time you’re in the University Center, take a moment to look at the plaques honoring those who’ve given generously. And if you’ve received an endowed scholarship, some of those names may already be familiar. Be sure the thank-you letter you send each year is filled with sincere gratitude.
Thanks to these supporters, Wayland continues to thrive—offering students a blend of rich tradition and forward-looking innovation.
