On January 20th, at 8 PM, Student Activities hosted the traditional back-to-school bingo night at the Hutcherson Center. Every semester, students have the chance to win up to $1,000 worth in prizes. The giveaways range from $30-$100 gift cards to a 50-inch smart television.
Bingo is often held in several different locations on campus. Depending on weather and time of the year, these locations can be Pete’s, the Marsh, or the Hutch. Coordinator of Student Activities, Nicole Adams, asked the crowd for feedback on the change of location.
“How do we feel about doing this in the Hutch instead of Pete’s or on the Marsh?” Adams asked.
It was decided fairly quickly that students were specifically disproving of bingo being held in Pete’s Place, due to discomfort of the temperature. Chloe Barham, a senior that joined in on the fun, was looking forward to winning a specific prize.
“I was so close to winning that air hockey table,” Barham said. “I love air hockey!”
When the last prize was given away, it was clear that the majority of the students were serious about winning. To make it more competitive, Adams said it would be a blackout bingo. This meant that students had to clear the whole board to win. Madison Amack, another freshman that participated, shared her favorite part of the night.
“I love the anticipation of being so close to winning,” Amack said. “You can feel the competitiveness in the air.”
Bingo is certainly a custom that students look forward to, and it is not just for the prizes. Freshman, Nathan McLinsky, appreciated the sense of community behind back-to-school bingo.
“It is a lot of fun getting to come together and play fun games as a community,” McLinsky said.
